Free modeling tip!
Tom Taylor, Zacharay, Louisiana, submitted this helpful modeling tip:
Don't like the smell and potential surface damage of typical solvent cements? Do large applications of super glue end up in the wrong place (like on your fingers)? Impatient with the prolonged drying time of nontoxic cements?
I use a combination of nontoxic tube cement and Loctite Super Glue Gel. It's especially nice when parts like wings or fuselage halves are warped and take time to fit together and form.
I generously apply the nontoxic cement along the seam in short beads, skipping key points such as corners, locating pin holes, bulkhead joints, etc., then fill in with the gel (which has a slightly longer drying time than the liquid).
Then I jam the halves together, applying rubber bands, tape, or whatever it takes to hold them until the gel sets.
This gives me ample time to wipe away the much more forgiving nontoxic cement that oozes out of the seam (yet causes no damage).
Meanwhile, instead of having to set up the assembly for a prolonged time, you can continue working as soon as the gel sets. You won't be held up by the nontoxic cement's drying time.
